Baseball Opening Day a Big HIT!
The Louisburg Parks and Recreation 2009 Baseball Season got underway Saturday April 4 with the traditional team parade up N. Main St. to the Louisburg High School recreation fields.  The parade included Tee Ball, Coach Pitch, Softball, Major and Minor League teams participating in the Louisburg Program.  Coaches, players, and family members gathered at the Person Place and paraded with Police and Sheriffs escort up Main St. to Louisburg High School.

A crowd estimated to be between 500 and 600 in number converged on the Louisburg High School rec fields to watch their favorite teams and players begin the 2009 Season of America's favorite pastime.

Young boys and girls participate in 6 different divisions related to skills, challenge, and age.  The Program has a primary focus on physical activity and recreation and a secondary focus on sportsmanship, social interaction, and baseball skill building.  A committment of support from all parents, family members, and spectators is required with positive encouragement and motivation expected by all in game attendance.

Gameday ceremonies included recognition of all teams and coaches as they lined up against the outfield wall.  Louisburg Mayor Karl Pernell formally opened the new season with the ceremonial "first Pitch", a looping drop ball to catcher Chase Ragland, Louisburg Recreation staff member.  A very special recognition and thank you was given to Mr. Bruce Tant,  District 10 Dirrector of Dixie youth baseball, who attended the ceremony.

The 2009 program has a slate of boy and girl players ranging in age from 4 years old to 14 years old.  Louisburg Recreation Director Brent Cardwell expects this to be another outstanding season with a few added conveniences.  Concession items will be available most saturday gamedays with proceeds supporting the Louisburg Recreation Program.

All lovers of baseball and wholesome entertainment are encouraged to come to games as often as possible.  Current team schedules may be found in the Athletic Programs section of the Louisburg Recreation web page.
