New State Regulations - Certain Items Prohibited

Effective October 1, 2009, certain items are restricted from collection at local landfills and within local waste streams.  These items are in addition to a number of other materials previously restricted from landfills by the NC General Assembly in the past.  These items are now considered recyclables and should be handled as such.  Specific information regarding these items may be found here, at the NC Solid Waste web page.

Please refer to the link in the previous section to material recycling locations in Franklin County.  For Louisburg residents, the closest recycling center is located in the Shannon Village Shopping Center at the Franklin County Farmers Market site.  At this location you are able to recycle glass, paper, magazines, plastics, aluminum and steel cans, and cardboard.

Specific local businesses should pay close attention to new limitations and requirements for plastic bottles, oil filters, and wooden pallets.  By following the link provided above to the NC Solid Waste Recycing page, local business or other producers of oil filters, wooden pallets and plastic bottles will find speific assistance in regards to handling these items.
